This past weekend, Rod Hullaby, and I sat down at the Cedar Rapids public Library to knock out our first podcast. The Untitled Podcast is the working title for now and between the 2 of us, we rambled enough to fill an hour of time and had a lot of fun doing it. This is our Origin story and how it all came about.
Rod and I were both members of an online forum run by a supplement company out of NJ. I had set up a local chapter of the Animal Barbell Club and was getting a meet scheduled when Rod messaged me that he was in Cedar Rapids, where we live, and would be at the Jesup Gym meet up.
Awesome I thought and messaged him something like, I’ll be the short guy with the Yellow shirt. He messaged back something like, I’m sure you’ll see me when you get there. I wasn’t sure what that meant but thought, cool. That picture above of Rod dead lifting is from that first meet and the second pic is from a meet up in May that year. He’s a little taller than me and he was right, I spotted him all right.
The next year we went out to the Arnold classic with another friend, Eric Van Kerckhove. Rod had a minivan and offered to take his vehicle. We left on Friday and made it back late Sunday. 16 hours of driving between Cedar Rapids, IA and Columbus, OH. I learned that Rod is a beast of a long distance driver while Rod and Eric learned that I fall asleep as soon as the doors closed on the minivan. I really suck on long distance trips in a car.
We’ve always stayed in touch and share a number of common interests and 8 years later when I decide to start up a podcast, Rod was the first guy that I thought to get a hold of. I asked if he was interested and he said yes right away and when do we get started. He always seems to have a lets do it attitude and is exactly why I wanted to do this with him.
On 1/27/2018 we recorded our first hour. There are some sound issues and our virtual mentor, Gary Vaynerchuck, would be proud because, it’s way far from fancy. Were working on #2 and will be back in the next couple weeks to get it recorded. #1 should be posted this week and I will let everyone know where to find it.
I don’t know if Rod has a blog or not but I’ll be putting up a link where to find him as well if he does.
