Documentary & Portraits

My documentary and portrait photography focuses on people and the stories they carry. From veterans and musicians to artists, families, business professionals, and everyday Iowans, I create portraits that preserve individual experiences while capturing something genuine about the person in front of the camera. Based in Cedar Rapids, I am available for documentary photography, environmental portraits, editorial assignments, professional portraits, and commissioned storytelling projects throughout Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Eastern Iowa, and beyond. I also travel throughout Iowa and the Midwest for assignments and longer-form documentary projects.

The Iowa Vietnam Era Veterans Project

For From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era, I photograph Iowa Vietnam-era veterans as part of an ongoing effort to preserve their stories beyond the film itself. These portraits document the men and women behind the memories and create a lasting visual record of their service, experiences, families, and lives after the Vietnam War.

Available for Commissioned Photography

Beyond my documentary projects, I am available for portrait and commissioned photography that puts people and their stories first. I work with individuals, musicians, artists, veterans, businesses, publications, and organizations to create portraits that feel natural and distinctive rather than overly staged. Sessions can take place on location, in a working environment, or wherever best helps tell the subject’s story.

Whether you need an environmental portrait, editorial photography, professional imagery, artist photographs, or a larger documentary project, I can build the photography around how the images will actually be used.
