I’m an Iowa-based storyteller focused on people and the stories they leave behind. Through documentary film, photography, writing, and conversation, I document real people, preserve experiences worth remembering, and create work that connects audiences to the people behind the story.
The Work
My work began with photography, but the camera has always been a way into something larger. Whether I’m photographing a musician seconds before they walk onstage, sitting across from a veteran as they recall something they have not spoken about in decades, or documenting a community and the people who shaped it, I’m interested in what exists beyond the obvious image.
That approach now extends across documentary filmmaking, photography, interviews, writing, and commissioned creative work. The subjects change, but the purpose remains consistent: listen carefully, document honestly, and create something that preserves more than a moment.
Documentary Film
My documentary work centers on firsthand stories and the people who carry them. From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era grew from conversations with my father about his Air Force service into a feature documentary built around the experiences of Iowa veterans and their families. The film continues to travel through public screenings while the larger project expands through new interviews and photography.

Photography
Photography remains at the center of my work, from concerts, festivals, and artists to environmental portraits, documentary assignments, events, and commissioned projects. I look for photographs that feel immediate and distinctive while still serving the people, organizations, publications, and projects that commission them.
Interviews and Writing
Long-form interviews and writing allow me to go beyond a single photograph or film sequence. Through conversations with musicians, filmmakers, artists, veterans, and other creative people, I’m interested in how work is made, where ideas originate, and the experiences that shape the person behind it.
Independent Projects
Alongside commissioned work, I continue developing independent projects including the Iowa Music Project and Art Inside the Craft. These projects give me room to follow stories over time and document people and communities whose work deserves a lasting record.
