Riverside Casino and Golf Resort will host a showing of the feature length film From Iowa & Back – The Vietnam Era. The event center will show the film June 17th at 6:00pm with concessions available.

Film Festival Update
This documentary film has gone through quite an exciting journey. Brucemore’s Artisan Studio came on board about a year ago and their support and guidance has been invaluable. We shifted gears a couple times and ended up with both a short film and a full length feature, which will premiere this Friday, March 28th, Vietnam Veterans Day.
The short film version has been submitted into 4 film festivals and accepted, so far, at both the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival and the Farm to Film Fest. Today I was notified that we won the “Top of the Crop Iowa Made” category and I couldn’t be happier or prouder of this project. It’s a source of great pride to be not only working with so many great Iowans but also recognized for the work we’re doing.

From Iowa and Back – The Short Film
With the help and guidance of Brucemore’s Artisan Studio, my vision to create a lasting memorial to my father, John Glazier, and other Iowans who served during the Vietnam Era has become much more than I could have expected. We have created a short film version that was submitted to a number of film festivals and accepted at both the Farm to Field Fest in Washington, Iowa and the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival. The feature-length film will be shown on March 29th at Brucemore but we couldn’t be more proud of having local film festivals see the value in what we are doing and wanting to include it alongside a variety of fellow Iowans.

Los Lobos, not just another bucket list show.
I have loved anything to do with good music for as long as I can remember. Movies, documentaries, TV shows, anything at all that highlighted, to me, what good music was and who was doing it. The standout film and soundtrack for me, much of which was done by Los Lobos, was La Bamba and it has stayed with me until today.
The story of Ritchie Steven Valenzuela and the film La Bamba hit when I was 13 in 1987. I was starting to play guitar and my dad, John, was starting to tell me more and more about certain musicians, Hendrix, Clapton, and Jim Croce. Then came a film about a kid learning to play guitar, playing authentic music from his heart, fighting for his dreams, and how his passion for what he loved immortalized him, his music, and the culture he represented, and I was hooked
Skip ahead 37 years and after a lifetime of striving for those same goals, I finally have the opportunity to not only see the musicians that started that fire, but also photograph their show in May of 2024. My write-up and some photographs are available at Ink19.com and suffice it to say that they did not disappoint. Los Lobos and the music they create reflect their own cultural roots, the best rock and roll has to offer, and how all of that reached across the airwaves and affected a suburban white kid in Iowa looking for a way to express his own dreams.

New Music Now Podcast
In addition to my own podcast, which you can find here, I also line produce and host a podcast called New Music Now over at Ink19.com. Its a show where we invite 2 guests, one a music fan and the other a musician, and we each choose an album and talk about a couple songs off of each one. It’s spurs some fun conversation and also help broaden our exposure to various musicians we may not have heard of before.

Music Reviews
I haven’t posted an actual post in a while but here’s a link to a very cool review for the new Gov’t Mule album Heavy Load Blues It’s a very cool album and has a lot of fantastic details through out the album. It’s their first full on, “traditional”, blues album, they used a lot of vintage correct instruments to match the time periods of the original songs, and they tracked the entire album live in the studio. Marc Ford back on the Road
I’ve had the pleasure to meet Marc Ford twice in person, and recently interviewed him for Americana Highways.
