2026 has been an incredible year for From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era.
The film has received recognition from festivals in Iowa and beyond, with awards and finalist honors for documentary filmmaking, original music, narration, and the film as a whole.
While I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition, the project’s purpose remains the same: preserving the stories of Iowa’s Vietnam-era veterans and ensuring their experiences are not lost to history.
Every festival selection, nomination, and award gives those stories another opportunity to reach an audience. Thank you to the veterans who trusted me with their stories, everyone who helped bring the film together, and the communities that continue to support it.
The journey isn’t finished yet.

The recognition is meaningful, but the awards have never been the reason for making From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era. The goal remains preserving these veterans’ stories and bringing them to audiences throughout Iowa and beyond. Every screening, festival, and conversation gives those stories another opportunity to be heard.
